Sheep Lead Line – Wednesday August 11, 2010 at 4:00 PM

Showmanship and Market Lamb Show – Wednesday August 11, 2010 immediately following the Lead Line

Release Time & Date – By Noon Thursday August 12, 2010 except sheep staying until the Jackpot Show on Saturday August 14th.

Rules and Regulations

1. Please use livestock entry forms, located in the center of the Fair catalog, to enter sheep for the Open and Youth Sheep Show.

2  .Refer to the general rules that apply to the sheep department.

3.  All sheep must have an approved Health Certificate signed within 30 days by an accredited veterinarian showing that the cattle are free from contagious diseases.  All out-of-state cattle must comply with interstate shipping regulations and have an approved Health Certificate.  Health Certificates will be checked by Show Superintendent or designee on Tuesday August 10, 2010 from 8:00 AM – Noon.

4.  All market lambs must have an ear tag number.  All breeding sheep, commercial ewes and market ewe lambs must have a scrapie ear tag or tattoo or conform to current legal requirements for health and identification.

5.  All market lambs must be shown docked and males are to be castrated with no evidence of scrotal or testicular tissue.

6.  Youth exhibitors may show a maximum of four single market lambs.  There will be no pair class this year.

7  .Market lambs must weigh between 80 – 145 pounds.

8.  No lambs shown in purebred classes may be shown as a market lamb or commercial ewe.

9.  Commercial ewe lambs may be shown as market lambs, and vice versa, provided that a double entry fee is paid for that animal and the exhibitor is a youth meeting the age requirements.

10.  Youth exhibitors may not be over 19 years of age by September 30, 2010.

11.  Youth exhibitors must show their own animals, unless they have two animals in the same class, then another youth exhibitor may show the second animal.

12  .Lambs must be owned by the exhibitor.

13  .An exhibitor may win only two prizes per individual sheep class, and only one prize per group class.

14.  The open sheep show is open to residents of Augusta County, surrounding counties and surrounding states.

15. The youth sheep show is open to residents of Augusta County only.

 

16.  Youth exhibitors are allowed to have assistance from other youth exhibitors setting the feet of their animal in the show ring

18.  The breeding sheep show will include the following breeds: Commercial, Dorset, Hampshire, Suffolk and all other breeds classes.

19  .Exhibitors will be assigned an exhibitor number that must be worn while in the show ring.

20. The overall winners of the Market Lamb Showmanship and Purebred Showmanship will compete for Champion Sheep Showman and be eligible to compete in the Supreme Showmanship Competition with the type of sheep of their choosing.

21. Judges decision is final.

22  .Entry fees: $4 per head for all sheep.

Division I - Youth Sheep Division

Exhibitors must be of age as of September 30, 2010 to compete in the following classes – Junior (9 years and under), Intermediate (10 – 13) and Senior (14 – 19).

Section A: Lead Line

Class 1 – Junior Lead Line

Class 2 – Intermediate (made by the exhibitor and/or purchased or made by

someone else other than the exhibitor)

Class 3 – Senior (made by the exhibitor and/or purchased or made by someone else other than the exhibitor)

Section B: Showmanship

·A $50.00 savings bond sponsored by the Sherando Ruritan Club will be given to the Champion and Reserve Champion exhibitor.

·A bag of show lamb feed supplied by the Augusta Cooperative Farm Bureau will be awarded to each youth showmanship class winner.

·A $10 gift certificate to Farm Choice will be awarded to the winner of the new First Time Exhibitor class.

·The winner of Showmanship must be a youth exhibitor in the commercial, purebred or market lamb competitions.

Class 4 – Senior

Class 5 – Intermediate

Class 6 – Junior

Class 7 – Pee Wee (3 – 4 years old by day of show & child must be able to control animal)

Section C: Market Lambs

Class 8 – Single Market Lambs (Augusta residents only)

Class 9 – First Time Exhibitor (open to Augusta residents of any age where theyare showinglambs for the first time, may exhibit either a commercial ewe lamb or market lamb)

Division II – Open

Please make sure you indicate Division II when entering sheep.Please indicate breed on entry form.To be eligible to show in the pair classes the sheep must have been shown in the previous classes.

Section D: Breeding Sheep

Class 10 – Senior Ram Lamb (September 1 – December 31 2008)

Class 11 – Intermediate Ram Lamb (January 1 – February 15, 2009)

Class 12 – Junior Ram Lamb (after February 15, 2009)

Class 13 – Pair of Ram Lambs

Class 14 – Champion Ram

Class 15 – Reserve Champion Ram

Class 16 – Yearling Ewe (1 year and under 2 years)

Class 17 – Pair of Yearling Ewes

Class 18 – Senior Ewe Lamb (September 1 – December 31, 2008)

Class 19 – Intermediate Ewe Lamb (January 1 – February 15, 2009)

Class 20 – Junior Ewe Lamb (after February 15, 2009)

Class 21 – Pair of Ewe Lambs

Class 22 – Champion Ewe

Class 23 – Reserve Champion Ewe

Class 24 – Pen of 4 Lambs (both sexes)

Class 25 – Flock (1 ram, 2 yearling ewes, 2 ewe lambs)

Class 26 – Breeder's Flock (bred and owned by exhibitor)
